Definitions are stored as products that are tagged as "definition" and get added to a smart collection. Rational is that it requires effort to work out especially the definitions, which could grow over time and contain downloadable content.

However, for abbreviations this is less the case. The expansion can be treated like a definition, but the abbreviation itself should be a metaobject, making the setup much simpler.
